Northern Mindanao Region (Region X) Designated as Region X of the Philippines, Northern Mindanao (Filipino: Hilagang Mindanao) is composed of five provinces (Bukidnon, Camiguin, Lanao del Norte, Misamis Occidental, Misamis Oriental) and two cities (Cagayan de Oro City, Iligan City) classified as highly urbanized, all occupying the north-central part of Mindanao Island, and the island province of Camiguin. The regional center is Cagayan de Oro, where the national government's regional offices and other big establishments are located. Lanao del Norte was transferred from Region XII (then called Central Mindanao) by virtue of Executive Order No. 36. Rainfall in Northern Mindanao is evenly distributed throughout the year. Its abundant vegetation, natural springs and high elevation contribute to the region’s cool, mild and invigorating climate. More than 60% of Northern Mindanao’s total land area are classified as forestland. Its seas abound with fish and other marine products. The region is the country’s third largest producer of corn and banana.
